Seniors Have a New Option for Living Well: Life Plan Communities

If you’re an active senior, the decision about whether or not to move to a senior living community can be overwhelming, especially when there are so many options. It’s important to understand what each option offers. Here’s a closer look at each one. Many people feel they want to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. The appeal of that is certainly understandable. It seems like the easiest option, requires no great life change, and there’s the obvious comfort level that comes with s

Why a Life Plan Community is a Wise Investment

The decision to move to a Life Plan Retirement Community (also known as Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC) is a wise investment in many ways, especially when older adults consider where they would like to age well with purpose, and what a perfect life looks like in retirement. Many Life Plan Communities (LPCs) offer rich social and cultural experiences, excellent health care, security, and peace of mind. Financial professionals and estate planners are increasingly advising clients to consider a move to an LPC as it is a responsible option that provides a rewarding lifestyle and ensures long-term health care if the need arises. Residents who choose to live in LPCs are relieved of the stress of becoming a burden to their family, friends and the state as they age.

Facebook Post: In Honor of Black History Month

As we honor Black Americans this month, we would be remiss if we didn't spotlight Esther Rolle, an accomplished stage, television, and film actress born and raised here, in Pompano Beach, Florida. She's best known for playing Florida Evans in hit sitcoms, "Maude" and "Good Times". We're grateful for Esther's contribution to the performing arts. #johnknoxvillage #seniorlivingcommunity #activeseniorliving #blackhistorymonth #pompanobeachflorida

Don't Age Gracefully. Age Greatly.

We're excited for the return of John Knox Village’s 6th Annual Active Aging Week! Another year has passed, and with all the challenges we’ve navigated, we are one year smarter and one year stronger. Many of us have learned how to connect and stay engaged using technology or have discovered new skills, and we continue to push ourselves in ways we never thought possible. And so, we continue to grow. That, in and of itself is Active Aging at its best!

The Eagle Update - 11/10/20

It's been a very unique year for both our Cross Country & Swim Programs. With a very limited competition schedule, both teams have had to rely on their teammates and daily practices to gain that competitive edge they need to help prepare them for their post-season meets. Our Swim Team kicked off their post season on Saturday, October 31st in Stuart where they competed in the 2020 FHSAA District Swim Meet. The Eagles had a successful day breaking a program record with 19 of our swimmers clinching

Finding Grace in the Mundane

In this time of Corona, so many things we took for granted are now highlighted with tremendous clarity. I never considered that having 4 different options of what kind of ground beef to buy as being a luxury, but it was. It’s amazing how fast we’ve learned to be happy with whatever brand we can get. Toilet paper that feels akin to using fine sandpaper is something I never thought I’d be ecstatic to find, and to gladly fork over whatever price is being asked.

Motion vs. Action – How Different They Are, & Why It Matters —

Motion is the series of things we do before we take action. Buying gorgeous new workout clothes is great retail therapy but it doesn’t qualify as fitness, and neither does just paying monthly for a gym membership we’re not using (not shaming, just saying). These are things we do to support our intentions, but obviously we know they don’t produce change. They only prepare us for change. To illustrate the point: ∙ Researching weight loss plans is motion. Actually starting one is action. ∙ Joinin

Believe the Hype - You're Better Than You Think

The USA Women’s Soccer team recently showed the world who’s boss, as they competed fiercely and fought to win the World Cup. There was zero room for self-doubt in any member of that team. Would any of these women have accomplished what they did if they’d allowed their confidence to waver? Not a chance. So why do I feel like an imposter? Many women considered to be successful by any measure are always looking over their shoulders, thanks to the “Imposter Syndrome”. Technically not a syndrome,

Bridging the Communication Gap Between Genders —

We all seem to concur that men and women are wired differently, and it couldn’t be more evident than in the way we communicate. Men make statements. Women ask questions. We display more emotions using our body language, facial expressions, and intonation, while most men listen without expression, and see their role in the conversation as reporting facts and delivering information. Let’s preface this by saying that some men are emotional and expressive, and some women are more pragmatic in their

This Year's Menu: Grace, Gravy, and Gratitude

There was a time – for most of my life, in fact – when Halloween was my favorite holiday.  No contest.  But now that I’ve long outgrown trick-or-treating, and my kids have too, for me, Halloween has lost some of its luster.   But the dark horse I never expected to move to the top of my list is Thanksgiving. Wedged between Halloween, which is hard to compete with, and Christmas — which is impossible to compete with — Thanksgiving always seemed like the quiet underdog of holidays.  The lack of hy
